But as always...in that totally good way.
What I wouldn't give to see it play out on our screens like this. However she finds out, the moment when Monica finally learns that Jake is really Jason's son will be a very powerful one indeed. And it should be poignant and bittersweet and all those other things you wrote it to be.
I really loved this:
"I was glad to help. After all, she said such beautiful things about your sister at the service, and when you were going in for surgery on your hands, she helped me through a pretty rough patch. Besides," she said, focusing more closely on her son with her gaze, "she's been a good friend to you. With everything you've lost this past year, somehow I know that Elizabeth had a lot to do with you coming out intact on the other side. Seems she was destined to be good to my children, so the least I could do was be good to hers."I can definitely hear Monica saying this, and I can almost picture Jason getting that secretive, little barely-a-hint-of-a-smile on his face, too. It would make him feel good to hear his mother praise Elizabeth like that.
Fantastic job with this!! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!!

As you can tell, I absolutely adored this piece. While, on one hand, of
course, I would want Jason to actually tell Monica himself that he's a father, that he's Jake's father, and that he's in love with Elizabeth,
but, at the same time, I'd seriously give away a relative in order for this story to take place. In her own way, as always, Elizabeth was helping Jason by
helping his mother, and, even if he knew that he shouldn't, Jason couldn't contain himself from touching his son, from offering himself a moment to
actually be his little boy's father. And, then, to have the two of them sneak off and steal a few moments together at the hospital only to have Monica
overhear them and realize so many truths in only a few seconds' time, that scene was both beautiful and poignant. As for those eyes that Jake has
inherited, someone better reference them after the paternity is revealed. That's all I have to say.
