Ch. 7
Elizabeth was surprised to find Jason still in the bed with her when she awakened the next morning. She had thought he'd be off to the warehouse first thing. She was antsy about the previous night's discussion, sure they had moved forward, but that didn't mean anything was settled. In the past few months, if anything, she had learned that nothing was ever simple when it came to her and Jason.
She started to roll over to edge herself off the bed, when she felt his hand on her arm. She turned around just as Jason was sitting up in the bed. "Here, I'll help you," He said as he climbed off the bed and stood up to walk around to her side. "How are you feeling?"
She laughed, "I'm feeling like a beached whale. I can barely get myself out of bed, and the recliner, not a chance I can sit in it anymore." She smiled at Jason's apparent amusement, "I'm okay. Ready for breakfast. You're not working today?"
Jason finished helping her get off the bed before responding. "Sonny's due back into town today. I figured he could handle the warehouse by himself and we can go out. I thought Max said you were off today."
Sonny wiped his hand down his face, trying to wake up. He glanced up to the top of the stairs when he heard a creak. Carly. They hadn't talked at all since Enzo had taken Lucky Spencer out of the PH last night. Enzo had been given strict orders to deliver Lucky to one destination only and to be sure the young man entered the house before leaving. He knew Carly had a lot of thoughts about the evening, but he was too exhausted to deal with them the night before.
"Good Morning, Carly. How about breakfast?" He said almost cheerfully. Anything to avoid the coming conversation.
"Sonny. What are you going to tell Jason?" not one to beat around the bush or avoid confrontation, Carly, of course had to start in immediately.
Sonny sighed and moved towards the kitchen regardless. "Jason doesn't need to know anything right now. Nothing is going to happen today and we need to leave this mess for the Spencer's. The less we all know about it, the better."
"Lucky's being alive changes things Sonny. Elizabeth loves him. She will be happy to know he's alive and she'll probably run straight back to him like the scared little girl she is." Carly said following her husband, after deciding she was indeed hungry.
"Carly," Sonny chastised. "Elizabeth clearly has feelings for Jason. She's been a part of this for months now, and she hasn't run away. I don't think she will. It's not any of our business what Elizabeth does when she discovers this." Then he turned back to the pan of eggs he was cooking.
"You can't just keep this a secret Sonny. Jason will find out, if not from you or the guards, than from seeing Lucky somewhere in town himself. This isn't something you can hide. You sent Lucky back out into the streets of Port Charles, eventually it's going to make its way back to Jason that he's alive."
Sonny placed the empty plate in front of his wife on the counter and went back to the stovetop, lifted the frying pan and poured half the contents onto her plate. Walking to the toaster to pull the pieces out and add them to her plate, he stopped when he heard her huff in exasperation. "I've got that taken care of."
Laura was ecstatic after hanging up the phone. Luke had tracked down Lucky. Tracked him down right to their very hometown. Lucky was in Port Charles. He was actually finding his way home. She went to the table and gave Lulu an extra big hug. She couldn't wait to see her daughter's reaction to her big brother being home again.
Luke had assured her that Lucky had made it into Port Charles at some point in the week, and even though he'd been unable to trace where the boy had stayed, he was certain he would be showing up at home any day now. After telling his wife he loved her, he'd hung up the phone intent on chasing down some more clues.
When Sonny's guard, Enzo, had led Lucky out of the penthouse and towards the launch, he had sighed in relief that the launch would not be available until morning. Lucky hadn't been worried. He figured that the guard would let him on his way. When the guard had detained him at a safe house until the launch could arrive, Lucky was still not afraid. Marching up to the front door of Wyndemere, he was beginning to get a little nervous, but he was sure he would be able to hightail it out of there before any of the occupants identified him. He was sure that he could make it out without being seen.
He was wrong.
Dead wrong.
The surly guard had kept his eyes on him all while knocking on the door. Staying posted until there was an answer. Alfred, his brother's butler, answered the door moments later and gasped at his arrival. Alfred took a few moments to compose himself and then led him in, along with the guard.
"Young Mister Spencer, you've stopped by to see your brother," the butler stated as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. As if he hadn't been 'dead' for months.
Irritated about the entire situation, Lucky just nodded with a sarcastic, "It would appear that way."
The butler ignored his response, told him to wait in the main room, and went to retrieve Nikolas.
Nikolas was a bit concerned when Alfred alerted him that he had company, but refused to say whom. At first thought, he imagined walking in to find his grandmother, Helena, ready to cause more problems for him and the rest of the population of Port Charles. Nothing could have prepared him for walking into the room and finding his brother.
His Supposed-to-be Dead brother.
He stumbled and grasped the desk corner. "Lucky, is that really you?"
Lucky sighed. Oh great. More of this. "It's me. Tell me about Elizabeth?" he prompted his brother and hoped for him to take the hint and discuss the suggested topic.
"How are you alive? Where have you been? Does mom know? Who's seen you?" The questions came out all at once as Nikolas took in everything about his younger brother's appearance. Noticing quickly the man accompanying his brother, he was about to let out another round of questions when his brother raised his hand to gesture he hold off.
"Quiet." Lucky said. "Please." He paused for a moment before glancing in his brother's direction once more. "What. Can. You. Tell. Me. About. Elizabeth?" He clearly enunciated every word and then as an afterthought he added, "And her baby?"
Evidently his brother was not going to answer anything until he attained the information he wanted. Nikolas sighed and approached the couch to sit down. "I give you information, you give me answers? That how this is going to work?"
Lucky nodded. Taking pity on his brother he added, "I went to Harborview. I wanted to talk to Jason. Sonny's guard found me and held me there until Sonny could see me. He sent me here with his guard. Here or Mom's. I chose here. Nobody there would tell me anything about Elizabeth. I've seen her, I know she's pregnant, Nikolas. I know she's got guards on her. What's going on?"
Nikolas suddenly wished he had a drink or two. Or hell maybe even twenty. Using a hand gesture he invited his brother to sit down while Nikolas composed himself. "Elizabeth, I haven't really talked to her in months, so I don't know everything." He quickly gestured to the guard who was still in the main room of Wyndemere.
"Sonny's guards are protecting Elizabeth, as you could tell, becauseā¦" How did he tell his brother this? Where did he even begin? "Jason." He cleared his throat and stood up. "Jason Morgan is the father of Elizabeth's baby."
Emily was uneasy knocking on the door to Penthouse 2. After Jason's visit last night, she'd decided to take a stand for her friendship with Elizabeth. If Nikolas couldn't understand why she was trying to form that relationship again, he'd just have to deal with it.
Elizabeth was sitting on the couch sketching something while talking animatedly with Jason when Max opened the door for her entrance. Both Elizabeth and Jason looked up as she entered, surprise on their faces.
Elizabeth recovered first. "Hi Emily. I'd get up to give you a hug, but I can't do that easily anymore," she joked, hoping to ease the tension.
Jason stood up to give his sister a small hug. "I'll send Johnny out to pick up the paint you wanted and the order at the baby store. Is there anything else I need him to pick up for the nursery?"
Elizabeth shook her head at Jason's question. "No, I think everything else is already here. I'm supposed to be off this week for three straight days, so I think I can get it all done then. With the guys help of course."
Emily waited for the pause in conversation before making her way to the couch to give Elizabeth a small hug. Before she could even start a conversation, the door opened a second time and Sonny walked in.
Sonny gave a polite nod to the girls and directed his attention to Jason. "Jason, I need you to go to Puerto Rico." He paused briefly. "Tonight."
