Last night I couldn't help but notice something. All of these characters are kind of going through the same thing. "Worst Thing That Could Happen" syndrome. Think about it...

Jason - He promised to keep Michael safe and not let mob life touch him. Now Michael's in jail getting beat up and covering up for his mob family.
Sonny - It's all about "family" to him. Well one son is in jail, the other is being adopted by Jax, his eldest is a cop who wants him in jail, and his daughter hates his guts.
Elizabeth - all she ever wanted was a family and to be a good mom. Well she and Jason couldn't have that family (danger!) so she tried to go back to Lucky, realized she wanted more and ended up sleeping with Nik. And once again ended up pregnant not knowing who the father is.
Johnny - Never wanted to be anything like his father. Yet more and more every day he's becoming just like him.
Scam - swore she'd never lose her independence again. Well guess what? Her life once again revolves around Jason. She has nothing but that.
Tracy - had finally found love, despite thinking it was impossible. Then she finds out it was all a sham and that Luke was only out for her money (or so she thinks).
Nik - spent all his life trying to separate himself from the crazy Cassadines. Then he goes and sleeps with his brother's fiance, further igniting the Spencer-Cassadine war, and becoming more of a "true Cassadine" than he ever would've imagined.
Lucky - only wanted to get his life (pre-kidnapping and fake death) back. Gets engaged to Liz only to find out that she's been sleeping with his brother and is pregnant with his child.
Patrick - never thought he'd settle down and have a family. Finally he does (despite all kinds of hesitation and doubt), and his wife decides to dedicate her time to her first (and dead) love by going to Africa and leaving him alone with their child.

I tried to keep my personal opinions (like Lucky's a d*ck, Sonny sucks, Scam's a piece of garbage, etc.) out of the above, and focus only on what the writers might be thinking. It just seems like everyone on canvas right now is unhappy. There is so much misery being spread around, no?

Very insightful--I totally agree!  AND there is not one couple who are together that you really want to root for.  IDK--it used to be so much more balanced!  GOOD DAY EVERYONE!!
