Chapter 9

"Hello"

"Elizabeth! You're still asleep? Come on get up!"

"Robin? It's 7am. Why are you waking me up so early on a Saturday morning." Elizabeth asked in her groggy morning voice.

"Well I was going to call you at 1am so you should be happy that I waited until 7. Now tell me how was your date last night." Her friend asked her in her way too chipper voice for 7am.

"It wasn't a date. It was just two friends hanging out at the movies."

"Oh geez Elizabeth that sounds just like what I did with Patrick last week but we called it a date."

"How is that going by the way?"

"It's good, but it sucks not having a car and he lives on the other side of town and you know I can't bring him back to my room. My new roommate is worse than you. No offense."

"None taken."

"well why doesn't he pick you up?"

"He does sometimes but then he hates when he has to drive me all the way back to campus. Elizabeth, how am I supposed to build this relationship when it's long distance?"

Elizabeth started to laugh. "Oh Robin. so dramatic, across town is not long distance especially when you guys go to the same school."

"Alright so I'm being a little dramatic but I want to see him more. And by the way don't think I don't see how you changed the subject. Did Jason kiss you goodnight?"

"Darn it, I thought bringing up Patrick would get your mind off my and Jason." Elizabeth said laughing. "Not a chance? Sooo…"

"Yes we had a good time last night but no he did not kiss me." Elizabeth said sighing about the fact that he didn't kiss her. She was trying not to dwell on it.

"Well that sucks. Maybe he doesn't kiss on the first date."

"Yeah what college guy you know doesn't kiss on the first date?" Elizabeth asked her friend.

"Alex didn't" Robin said giggling into the phone knowing her friend hated when she brought up Alex.

"Ugh don't talk about him please. So what are you getting into today?"

"Well I wanted to go see Patrick at his place but I need a good friend with a car to take me there."

"Well I hope you find one, I think I'm going to get up and go to the gym. Talk to you later."

"Elizaaaabeth" Robin whined. "Please you have to take me and just think about it would be a great excuse to see Jason."

"I don't need an excuse to see Jason."

"You know you want to."

Robin was right she really did want to see Jason. But she thought that maybe it might be too soon to see him since she just saw him the night before.

"Fine I'll take you there but you better not start making out with Patrick in front of me and Jason or I'll leave." Elizabeth warned her friend.

"EEEEEEE! You are the best BFF. So what time are you picking me up?"

"How about around 5pm we'll bring them a pizza or something for dinner."

"Do you ever stop taking care of everyone?"

"I could start right now if you want?"

"Very funny Elizabeth. I'll see you at 5. Thank you so much!"

"Your Welcome." She said hanging up the phone and thinking what had she gotten herself into. She didn't want Jason to think she was some kind of stalker. But on the other hand she really did want to see him. She just hopes that the night doesn't end in disaster.

*******

Jason was looking forward on spending the day at their townhouse, since he had the day off from work, maybe cracking some books or just relaxing at his place when Patrick informed him that Robin was coming over and was bringing a friend. When Jason asked him what friend Patrick said he didn't know but all he knew was that they were bringing food. Jason was never one to pass up free food but he really didn't want to hang out with Patrick and Robin and their friend so he had plans to make himself scarce. He thought about calling Elizabeth to see what she was doing but he didn't want her to think he was stalking her or anything since they just went out the night before. He thought about locking himself up in his room but thought that was real rude. His mother would be proud of his growing manners. Then he decided that he would go to the nearby pool hall and play some pool. He grabbed his jacket and was opening the door to leave when there standing on his front stoop was Robin and Elizabeth.

"Elizabeth" He said completely ignoring Robin. Then he heard her clear her throat. "Oh hey Robin. I didn't know you were coming by." He said looking at Elizabeth again.

"Robin needed a ride." She said rolling her eyes and then smiling at Jason.

"Can we come in, the pizza is getting cold." Robin said clearly not amused that she was being ignored.

"Oh sure, here let me take it."

"Weren't you on your way out?" Robin said looking at the jacket in his hand.

"Umm, out? Umm no I was just going to get my book bag out my car. You know try to get some studying done?" He said dropping his jacket on the couch, then placing the pizza on the counter. "But it can wait. Food is here and don't want it to get cold. Patrick! Robin is here!" He called out into the room.

Patrick came down the steps of the townhouse and came into the living room where they were all standing. "Jason I thought you were leaving." He asked Jason.

It was Jason's turn to blush now and Elizabeth had to stifle a laugh. Jason knew his cover was blown so he just confessed.

"Alright fine I was going to leave because I didn't want to have to babysit Robin's friend since these two were probably going to completely ignore her and I would have to entertain her. But since I know it's Elizabeth and she's a friend of mines I guess I don't have to go now. So everyone stop laughing and I'll get some plates so we can eat."

With that Jason went into the kitchen and pulled out some paper plates and cups for everyone. The food was distributed and they all began to eat and talk about the basketball game that was on television.

"So are you a sports fan?" Jason asked Elizabeth.

"Depends on the sport."

"Let me guess figure skating and gymnastics." He said laughing. Elizabeth smacked him on his arm playfully.

"How male of you Morgan. For your information yes I do enjoy figure skating and gymnastics but I also love football." Jason looked at her with a skeptical eye.

"Football really? How many games did SU win this year?" Elizabeth turned to look him straight in the eye to answer him "We were undefeated, thank you very much. I have you to know I was at every home game last semester cheering the mighty Orange on." She said taking another bite of her pizza pleased with herself.

"Wow I'm impressed."

"Well you can't have a brother who's a sports fanatic and not learn a thing or two." Trying to speak with food in her mouth but still look cute.

"Jason you are speaking to the girl who camped out for tickets for the big game against the University of Miami." Robin interjected into the conversation.

"No way" Patrick said as his contribution to the conversation. "You don't seem like the type. You seem like you would rather pay someone to camp out for you than do it yourself."

"Like I said my brother was a sports fanatic and one of the conditions he had if I wanted to hang out with him was that I couldn't act like a prissy little girl and not want to get dirty. So I did what I had to do. The camp out wasn't that big of a deal. I did it through the Student Union, you sign up in blocks of 3 hours, save the place in line and then someone comes to relieve you."

"Yeah but it was 20 degrees out that night Elizabeth. I thought you were nuts." Robin said remembering that night when she tried to talk Elizabeth out of doing it.

"Yeah it was pretty cold that night." Elizabeth said laughing at herself. "But what I can say it was one of the biggest games of the year, how could I explain to my brother that I didn't go because it was too cold. I would never hear the end of it. I can hear him now." "Lizzie Bear what kind of football fan are you?" she said in a mock Steven voice.

"Lizzie Bear?" Jason said to a rapidly growing red Elizabeth.

"Yeah that's his nickname for me." She mumbled.

"Lizzie Bear, that's cute." Elizabeth heard Patrick say. She was never going to live that name down. She was just happy that Jason didn't say anything.

"Dare we ask where the name Lizzie Bear came from?" Jason asked. So much for him not saying anything. She'll have to repay him later by finding something equally embarrassing on him and bust his chops about it.

"You guys don't want to hear about that."

"Oh yes we do, right guys?" Jason asked the group to which they all said yes.

"Fine. When I was little I used to want Steven to carry me around everywhere and someone commented on how he carried me around like a teddy bear, and hence 'Lizzie Bear' was found. And to this day he won't let me live it down and I supposed you guys won't let it go either."

"Nope" Robin said followed by a "Not a chance" from Patrick finally to a "Never" from Jason.

"Oh you guys just wait until I have something on you all, I'm not going to show you any mercy." She said getting up from her seat and going into the kitchen to throw her plate in the trash.

"Here let me." She heard Jason say behind her. He took the plate from her hand and threw it away. She began to walk out of the kitchen and he grabbed her hand as she turned to leave. "I was just teasing you back there. I won't call you Lizzie Bear if you don't like it. But it is a cute name."

"It's okay I know you guys are just teasing. It's just taken me so long for people to see me as an adult. I love my brother but he still sees me as that scared little girl that used to follow him around everywhere and that name just represents everything I'm trying to move past, you know what I mean."

"I know exactly what you mean. Funny how there is things from your past that just creep up on you and all the sudden you are back in that place again no matter how much you tell yourself you are over it." Jason said looking at Elizabeth both of them knowing what the other was feeling.

"You really do get it don't you." She said looking him straight into his icy blue eyes.

"Yes I do." He said holding her gaze.

"So Jason any embarrassing childhood nicknames you want to share with the class." Elizabeth said trying to lighten up the mood that had suddenly turned serious between them.

"None that I'm sharing with you right now."

"Brat" She said reaching out to swat him on the arm. He anticipated the move and grabbed her arm turning her and slamming her back into his chest. She let out a laugh as he leaned down his lips just inches from her ear. "Well maybe if you go out with me again I might tell you."

"That's blackmail Jason." She said trying not to show how affected she was being so close to him, close enough to turn around and kiss him.

"I like to think of it as a good bargaining technique."

"Well you do drive a hard bargain."

"So is that a yes?" He said still holding her close to him.

"Let's see I get free movie and I get some embarrassing material to tease you with to the end of time. You're right, that is a good bargaining technique. I would be a fool to say no. So it's a date Mr. Morgan" she said taking a step forward. She then turned around to him and stuck out her hand to shake his hand. "Deal" she said laughing and walking back to the living room to join Patrick and Robin leaving Jason standing in the kitchen wondering what just happened.
