New York, NY

“So one more set before we are off!” Caitlyn excitedly informed Jane.  “I am so happy you agreed to let me come with you. Did you know Port Charles is the home to one of largest Organized Crime Syndicates in the world? Do you think we will see any mobsters? I wonder if they really do hang out in private rooms in the back of Italian Restaurants? I googled a list of all the Italian restaurants there, I figured we might be able to eat at a few and see what the atmosphere feels like, you know see if there is any extra tension in the air. I mean we could run into the boss, Sonny Corinthos anywhere.”

Caitlyn was a 19 year old dancer from Iowa, she had saved up all her money in high school for the day she could move to New York City and join a dance company. It had been a dream of hers since she was a child, Jane was pretty sure the dancing job she did land was not exactly what her and her family had in mind. But Caitlyn was too embarrassed to call her parents and tell them the dance companies wouldn’t even give her an audition, or worse, feared they would want her to move back to Iowa. So she continued to dance at night for EJ and would continue the long process of auditions on Broadway during the day. Jane admired the girl, she could just shake the daily rejections off and continue going on stage as “Ginger” the red headed preachers daughter at night in the club as if they never happened.

“Caitlyn, I’m sure we won’t be able to afford to eat or stay anywhere we might run into a mob boss.” Jane explained. “Besides, I’m not sure this is the best time to go to Port Charles. Maybe I should just cancel my appointment, wait and give it a little more time. I’m pretty sure going to a strange city isn’t going to help jump start my memory.”

“Oh no you don’t. I knew you would try this, that’s why I am going with you. I already rented the car and took the time off, you remember the fit EJ threw over both of us taking a week off. I’m not about to let you back out after all of that!” Caitlyn explained. “Now I hear the announcer it’s show time. One more dance then we are heading out.”

Jane was glad to see a table of her regulars waiting, and was even more glad when the set ended and she and Caitlyn were on the road. She couldn’t help thinking that that might have been the last time she had to take her clothes off for money, by next week she might know her actual name, and remember how she had made money before. She only wished Caitlyn could be so lucky.

Port Charles, NY

“Hey Epiphany” Robin greeted as she and Patrick exited the elevator, “How is your day going?”

“Hmmm, between a slew of fresh out of school incompetent nurses screwing up my charts, the janitors taking 20 minute smoking breaks ever 15 so the breakfast trays are still cluttering my hallways, and overly zealous doctors coming in wasting my time with small talk, I would say my day is the same as it always is. So how was your night, enjoy that 8 hours of sleep that apparently only doctors that are employeed here are entitled?” Epiphany scolded. “Dr. Drake, that amnesia patient from New York is supposed to be in this morning, do you want me to page her when she arrives or put her in an exam room first?

“Just put her in exam 3 and page me.”

“Will do” she responded. “Nurse Marker!! Why are these charts strewed all over my desk top? Do I leave my work lying around for you to clean up? I didn’t think so! I have to go check on Mr. Quartermain in room 2975 and I expect to see all of these charts filed by the time I return or I am going to make you change every bed pan in geriatrics before the day is over.” She hollered before heading down the hall.

“We need a doctor” Carly explained as she and Cameron walked in the door.

“What happened?” Robin rushed forward seeing the bandage wrapped around the little boys hand.

“Cameron decided he wanted to have his apple cut up for him, and instead of waiting for his nanny Jennifer to do it, tried to slice it himself and got his hand instead. It looked pretty deep and I thought he might need stitches.”

“Where is Jason?” Robin inquired

“Why am I not surprised? Your husband is standing right here, and still the first thing that comes to mind is where is Jason. He is out of town, the boys are staying at my house. Now can you help him or not?” Carly snipped.

“Here Cam, why don’t we head into exam room 2 and see what have okay?” Patrick urged as he led Carly, Robin and Cam away, impressed that the little boy wasn’t even crying.

“Excuse me” Jane interrupted the young nurse who was frantically moving charts around the desk. “I have an appointment with Dr. Drake”

“Oh, here let me take you to exam room 3, and get you a gown and I’ll let the doctor know you are here.” The girl kindly helped. She quickly put on her gown and waited, and it wasn’t long before she heard the little boy.

“Ow, ow, ow….it hurts! I want my mommy!” he sobbed, as Robin consoled him, reassuring him they were almost finished. Jane was glad to hear the boy’s mother helping him through, the sound of the child in pain just tore at her chest. And she was glad it was only another moment before a handsome man in the white coat walked in reading a file. “Hello my name is Dr. Patrick Drake, it says in your medical file that you were found unconscious near the river, remained unconscious for almost a week and had no recollection of anytime before that moment when you woke up, is that….” At that moment Patrick Drake looked up into the face of a ghost and lost all words.
