I do not think the wedding was rewritten.  This wedding fits into everything which was said.  This is Jasam version of "funny, touching, original".  They got the whole ring thing.  Personally, I think we can explain away the rings all we want, but in the end, Jasam got the destiny couple rings (Lila/Edward-Alan/Monica).  I am sure they would have used Luke and Laura's if they could have thought up a plausible way to do it!!!  The whole don't assume thing....Sam got cold feet about the wedding, not Jason.  Really, had this not been for the whole Chinese  thing(not the least bit cheesy to their fans; they feel about Chinese food the way we feel about red glass), I would have loved this for Liason....Jason and Elizabeth running away from an out of control big wedding, getting married quietly, just the two of them...luckily finding a glass blowing store with lots of red glassware......Completely cheesy to anyone who is not a Liason fan, but Awww for me.

I think this wedding is exactly as planned, plus it would be wasting tons of money and time spent to scrap a big wedding, something GH does not have.  This was the whole argument for GW not being able to change much of Guza's stuff out of the gate...to expensive to change what was already written, never mind filmed or bought.
The wedding was rewritten. Even Kelly Monaco herself said it was in one of the interviews. She said a big wedding was planned but that the last minute it was rewritten to this chinese wedding and they were given their scripts the MORNING it was taped.

Whatever occurred, what ever reason it was added or changed, having them marry in the way their fans wanted was a nod to the couple.  It was exactly as GW stated, non conventional but them.   We all even mocked at them having a traditional wedding with all the extras, so not either character.

Their fans are happy, they were given what their fans wanted, and they still got their girl in a wedding dress, they still got Jason seeing her in a wedding dress.  I have always believed the 1.5 fans are Sam fans first.

Now regarding wedding promotion, I do believe that was a mistake, because it was promoted as a traditional wedding in which viewers are accustomed to seeing on soaps where there is a big surprise and therefore everyone watches to see all the cast members.

The problem is that Jason and Sam are not characters that would have a big wedding like Nik and Emily or even the LnL big wedding or S&B etc.

I only know that Jason with Sam has not never hit the numbers, but they have gone all out to get people to watch.   They get numbers overnight so they will know if they were successful or not.   Surprisingly, the bar is so low.  2.2 is considered good now.

I agree with Paper Chain, it seems that GW went all out to give 1.5 everything he could to bring in all the components of the couple.   I don't see it, but apparently their fans and the writers have a different vision, now let's wait until we see what the NR viewers thought.
