CHAPTER 22
A/N-Thanks so much for all the great reviews. Sorry it’s been hit and misses for updates but my life seems to just be crazy and I have had a hard time trying to figure out where I want to take this story now. If anyone has any comments you know what to do. As always, read and enjoy. Thanks, Robyn
Elizabeth stood outside the clubhouse and wiped her tears away. Her precious little boy was so happy to have a Daddy. Something that most children take for granted, but it was time he talked to Jake. Hate was a word not used in the Webber household.
Elizabeth knocked on the clubhouse door. “Come in!”
“Hey, Mommy just wanted to check on her little guy and make sure he was okay.”
Cam came running over and was bouncing up and down. “Mommy mommy, guess what, Mr. Jason, he is going to be my Daddy. I will finally have Daddy just like Dawson at school. But my will be much cooler ‘cause he has a motorcycle and he is going to teach me to ride it…”
“Cam I think that is wonderful.” She scooped him up and smothered him in kisses.
“Mommy I’m a big boy now, I don’t need kisses.” She reluctantly sat he back down.
She squatted down in front of him. “You will always be my baby, you and Jakey both. Now about Jakey, he is at the house right now waiting on his best big brother in the whole world to talk to him. What do you think he wants to hear?” She asked him.
Cam hung his head and started toeing his sneaker on the floor. “That I’m sorry. And I am Mommy, I just got so mad because he a cool Daddy and and I didn’t have one, but I do now so it is all okay.”
“Yes you do need to apologize, Jakey loves you very much and looks up to his big brother and it really hurt him when you said you hated him. I’ve told you before that words can not be unspoken, so you must always think before you speak, right?”
“Right Mommy. ‘Cause you don’t want to hurt someone feelings.” Cam turned to Jason. “I’m going to go talk to Jakey now Jas..Daddy.” He ran and gave him a hug.
“I think that is a very good idea.” Jason gave him a hug back and Cam was out the clubhouse door running to the house.
Elizabeth and Jason walked out of the clubhouse. “Jason you did a wonderful job with him. You let him talk and ask questions and gave him answers he could understand. You are going to be a wonderful father. But I never doubted that.”
Jason smiled. “Thanks for letting me talk to him. He is such an amazing kid. You have done a wonderful job with him.”
“Thanks.” They started walking back up to the house.
“So where does that leave us?” Jason stole a glance out of the corner of his eye.
“Honestly? I’m not sure. Let’s just take it day by day, Okay?”
“Okay, that’s more than I deserve.”
The next morning Monica let and went back to Port Charles. She was hoping to return in about six months for another month long stay. Over the next two weeks Jason came every evening for supper, bath time, and bed time. He read the boys stories together and then each boy got a individual story. He played with them and got to know his sons and it was wonderful. Elizabeth loved watching her sons blossoms from the love and attention Jason gave them.
She still guarded her heart. They had easy conversation about weather, the boys, the inn but never anything too deep. It was simple, she was scared. She was afraid that she let him back into her heart that she would face the pain that came along with that. Oh, she had seen the change in Jason and it was wonderful. And amazingly there was no issues with him leaving the business but what happened if there was. Would he take off again, push them away fro their protection? She didn’t think he would but could she stand it if he did? So she was safer with a friendship and for now that was all she wanted, well all she needed.
One evening after putting the boys to bed Jason came downstairs and heard something from the hall powder room. It sounded like someone was sick so he waited outside the door, just to make sure that person didn’t need any help. A few moments later the door opened and out stepped Elizabeth. “Oh, hey, are the boys asleep?”
“Yeah, I think they are out for the night. Are..are you okay?”
“You heard that did you? Gawd, that is embarrassing.” Elizabeth covered her face with her hands.
“Nothing to be embarrassed about. I just wanted to make sure whoever it was they were okay. Do you think it was something you ate?”
“My guess I am getting a bug of some sort. I’ve sort of felt off the last few days. Well I guess I will see you tomorrow?”
Jason watched her with concern. She was pale and she seemed to have lost weight, not that she had any to lose.
“Um, yeah I’ll be here. Are you sure you are okay? I mean I can stay…”
“No really Jason, I’m just going to go to bed, I’ll be right as rain tomorrow, I promise.” She walked over to the stairs and leaned again the banister. She had to make it up the stairs, she had to. She looked back over her shoulder “See you tomorrow, night.”
Jason walked over to the door. “Night, I’ll lock up.”
She nodded. She headed up the stairs, Jason opened the door, turned the lock and shut the door. Jason had just stepped onto the top stairs when he heard a loud thump.
He turned around a pounded on the door, “Elizabeth!” Something was wrong, he could feel it. No time to find his key, he kicked the door in. There Elizabeth laid at the bottom of the steps like a broken doll.
