Mirrored Destiny
Chapter One

Authors Notes: As a birthday present to myself, I'm gathering the courage to post the first chapter of my first fan fic. GH owns all the characters and
many of the lines. The only thing I own is how I wrote it. When I started I hadn't read any fanfic with this twist but knew some had to be out there with
all these wonderful authors. I've read one (which I liked) but we focused on different stuff. My question when I started this was: What if the choices were
reversed and Elizabeth was in the mob and Jason was the doctor. I hope you like what I came up with.
Chapter One
Jason shook his head as he watched Elizabeth enter the room swiftly scanning everyone's faces, her eyes missing nothing. His feelings for this woman were such a paradox for him and yet he couldn't deny them any longer. He was in love with Elizabeth Martin. How long had that been the case? Was this some new development that snuck up on him or had he loved her from the first? Jason thought back to the first time he met Elizabeth.
He had gone to Jake's to mourn the loss of his first patient. All Jason Quartermaine had ever wanted to be was a doctor. After years of schooling, internship and a semester abroad in Italy, he had finally come home and begun his residency at General Hospital. He loved every part of it. He loved the ins and outs of the human body, the mystery of illness, and the intricacies of surgery. He loved to fight against death and he hated to lose. That night, in spite of all his efforts and skill, he had lost. He had to go face two young parents and tell them their baby boy didn't make it. The drunk driver who had run over their son on his way home from school had taken their beloved child. He took the loss personally. He went to Jake's to forget, to drown his sorrows for a while.
He noticed her when he first walked in the room. She ruffled his senses like no one had before. She stood strong, slim, and silent at the pool table. Her sapphire eyes watched him as she leaned over the pool table and sent a bright red pool ball into the corner pocket. Her dark chocolate hair fell in waves over her shoulder. He went straight to the bar and ordered a tequila. He swallowed it in one gulp and followed it with a second one immediately. As he reached for the third shot, a brittle blond woman slid her way over to him and draped herself over his arm.
"Hey honey," she purred, "you looking for a good time?"
He barely glanced at her and said shortly, "No thanks."
She laughed harshly and replied, "Well I am and you are the perfect fit for what I'm looking for!" She ran her sharp nails up his thigh and tried to grab his crotch.
He quickly grabbed her hand and squeezed her fingers a little harder than necessary. "I said no thanks." He still didn't give her even the slightest glance. His muscles tightened when he heard the unmistakable sound of the hammer of a gun.
He turned slowly to find the blond grinning at him as she pushed her gun firmly in his side. "I really wasn't asking" she smirked.
He stared at her in disbelief. All he wanted to do was forget about the hospital for a while and now some crazy woman was pulling a gun on him. He couldn't believe it.
Suddenly the blond woman went flying. One minute she was there and the next she was gone. He turned around to find the slim brunette holding the blonde's arm twisted behind her back and the gun fall to the floor from fingers suddenly gone numb.
"Carly" she uttered softly but firmly, "when will you ever learn that no means no?" The petite auburn haired woman kicked the gun away from the pathetic woman who had propositioned him and pulled a gun on him. She leaned down and whispered something in her ear that caused the blond named Carly to go pale.
"You wouldn't!" she whined as her eyes widened. "You would." She whispered. Quickly with a wince due to her arm, Carly pulled from the young woman's grasp and left Jake's as fast as she could.
Jason was left with every eye in the place staring at him and the young woman he knew to be Elizabeth Martin. A little embarrassed he angrily told her, "What's your problem? If I needed help, I would have asked for it. Why don't you mind your own business?"
She just took a step back quietly with her hands up and answered calmly, "You're right you can be hassled by anyone you want. Sorry to interfere."
Jason immediately regretted his harsh words. "Sorry…look, I've had a rough night and the last thing I need is more drama. I just wanted to get away and drown everything else out."
Elizabeth smiled slightly and replied, "That is something I can understand. Do you want to know how I get away?"
Jason looked into her blue eyes and found himself responding to her, "Sure."
She held out her hand and he took it in his much larger one and felt a jolt of electricity all the way though his body. She raised startled eyes to his but in a blink they returned to their usual calm inscrutable blue. He followed her out to the back of Jake's and there was a black motorcycle. She handed him a helmet with a smile.
