IMO, Spinelli in all essence is a great character in theory. If you think about it, he really is and BA is a good actor with the word jargon that he has to go through. The problem with Spinelli is the writing for him. They took him out of the core of who the Spin character is. He came on the show as a pot head computer genius that was all about money. He got around Jason and Jason showed him that money is not everything, that you have to care about people. He was never really close to Sam and yet they want us to make us think that he was, but if you watch the 2006 and 2007, it wasn't about Jason/Spin/Sam. It was about Jason/Spin. It was Guza showing Jason's growth and in essence Spin becoming the new Jason to Jason's Sonny (brother/brother relationship, mentor/pupil relationship). They were showing growth on both Jason and Spin side. And Spin made the hugest growth when Georgie died as compared to Jason making the biggest jump when he admitted his love with Elizabeth. Now we have backtracked with Jason and Spin and it's pretty clear why. Spin can't grow if Jason doesn't grow. Jason is Spin's mentor so can it really be convincing to have Spin come into his own and be mature living with Jason when Jason is in a standstill maturity and growth wise. No because if they write Spin true to character growth wise, he wouldn't be in a business with Sam since he was the one that was mainly vocal about the misdeeds of Sam to the point where he was calling her an entirely different name to him telling Jason to fight for Elizabeth/Jake/Cam as his family. So, now with Jason interacting with Sam, Spin would be the one that is mainly vocal about Jason not being apart of his son's life, but also the fact that he is hanging out with Sam. Frons can't have that. It will not keep Sam front and center if two popular characters which Jason/Spin are have nothing to do with Sam. So in essence they have to continue to keep Spin immature because the grasshopper can not mature more than the master. And if they wrote Spin with that maturity then he would very much outshine Jason maturity wise.

Makes sense. IA 100% I just can't tolerate the guy anymore and its cause of the way he's being written like you said. I used to like the guy, he was quirky and fun and refreshing to see around Jason and I agree showed growth for Jason's character and himself which was great to see. He was great with Georgie's death I saw true potential it was the first time we saw a real vulnerable side of him, jokes aside. And I liked seeing the yin yang relationship he had with Jason progress but things obviously changed. Spinelli was smart enough to figure out what Sam did was wrong and pushed Jason to go after Liz and claim his family but ever since the kidnapping part 2 with Sam saving Jake and hanging around Jason 24/7 he acts like Sam did nothing wrong, even went back to calling her 'Fair Samantha' and stupidly inviting her over for dinner at the PH without asking Jason first. wth? Obviously they use him as a prop to support stories cause one minute you have him pushing Jason to be with his son and the woman he loves and the next he's signing Jason up for online dating and thinking Jason hooked up with the Russian lawyer and being buddy buddy with Claudia. I mean really now? It's like the kid has no mind of his own and swings whatever direction the writers want him to half-hazardly. I just don't care for the character anymore, he was showing growth but I guess the writers just stopped caring and write him as the joke used for laughs. A shame really cause I liked him.
